I was hired to do a photograph in Los Angeles a number of years ago. It was a flat fee and a generous one. I realized instead of flying I could take the train and make three stops for less money than flying to LA. Time was not a factor. I got on in Chicago went to LA did the job went to San Francisco to see my best friend got back on went to Denver hitched a ride to Cheyenne, Wyoming for the rodeo and so it began.
I still like the train all these years later. I don't think too much, I talk to people, I see fleeting moments out the window and try to catch them and the people I cross paths with along the way.
