“Cuba it’s complicated,” was a phrase I heard over and over again. Cuba feels in layers to me, these vibrant colorful complicated layers. A fast paced colorful explosion of life.
On a January day in 2020 with 5 inches a snow on the ground, I thought I would go back through and edit from my trip to Cuba last year.
The doors flung open by the Obama administration like so many other positive policies have now been closed. Shut by the Trump administration. The love for Americas and treatment undeniable, the warmth of hugs, greetings and dancing.
Careers in Cuba often changed to embrace the new American tourism. I look back on friends I made with fear now. How are they doing? How is their new business? It is hard not to not think about all of this with fear for them, but then I smile and feel the warmth and remember.
